This is a memoir detailing the experiences of Melanie O'Shea as an abused child. The writing evokes the physical pain of repeated, horrendous physical abuse and delves into the psychological torture she endured. Melanie's stubborn determination to be free of her parents' gruesome tyranny leaves her broken, afraid, and scared for the siblings she fears she abandoned.

Each chapter guides the reader through a memory narrated by Melanie as the events unfold. Moving swiftly through the years, the reader is given a glimpse of the permeation of her abuse in every facet of her life including her struggles to survive at home, her inappropriate behavior in school, and the toll it took on her precious few friendships. Labeled a problem-child and humiliated by the adults in her life, Melanie had no refuge from the terror she experienced at her parents' hands. In the final chapters, Melanie considers the value of forgiveness and the place it has when a defenseless child is no longer defenseless.

Embers A Memoir eBook Melanie O'Shea

I just finished reading Melanie O'Shea's memoir, "Embers", and it was a tough book to put down. I don't often say this about memoirs as I often find them to drag but not so here. From the opening pages, where she was just a young child, I was hooked and wanted to see her escape from this abusive home. O'Shea is a talented writer that is able to relate through past feelings and dialogue years of abuse and the escape as she goes off to college. I found the most interesting aspect of the story to be the struggle that incurred after she left the home, as there was still much healing to do before she could forgive and form her own lasting relationships, including starting a family of her own. Amazing read.

OK
It was heart breaking but with a great ending.
The book made me feel like I was in the room with Melanie. I could feel her pain and sadness
I loved this story.I highly recommend this amazing story.
10 out of 10
I found this book to be very close to home for me. She was brave enough to be honest. I was there with her every step of the way. I could not put it down. Thank you for writing it.
It was ok, not one of my favourites, it was very long and dragged on a bit....the story line was alright. I can't understand why she didn't leave before!!!
If anyone ever abused you or someone you know help them get out of the situation and get the help they need. It is not healthy to stay in that environment.
This book teaches so much take the time and read it. You will love it too.
